What is a Halogen Free PCB?
A halogen-free PCB is a printed circuit board designed to contain no bromine (Br), chlorine (Cl), or other halogen elements above strict thresholds. As defined by standards like JPCA-ES-01-2003 and IEC 61249-2-21:
-Chlorine (Cl) content ≤ 900 ppm (0.09% wt)
-Bromine (Br) content ≤ 900 ppm (0.09% wt)
-Total halogen content (Cl + Br) ≤ 1,500 ppm (0.15% wt)
Unlike traditional PCBs that use brominated flame retardants (BFRs), halogen-free PCBs eliminate toxic emissions like dioxins and furans when burned, making them safer for human health and the environment.
-
Environmental Sustainability
-Avoids hazardous chemicals, reducing pollution during production and disposal.
-Meets EU RoHS, REACH, and China’s green manufacturing regulations. -
Superior Performance
-Thermal Stability: Higher glass transition temperature (Tg) and lower thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) for reliable high-temperature applications.
-Electrical Insulation: Reduced polarity in phosphorus/nitrogen-based resins enhances dielectric strength.
-Moisture Resistance: Lower water absorption ensures dimensional stability and long-term reliability. -
Regulatory Compliance
Essential for industries like automotive, medical devices, aerospace, and green energy, where safety and sustainability are non-negotiable.
Advanced Materials & Manufacturing
-We use certified halogen-free substrates, including:
-Modified FR-4 (e.g., ShengYi S1165, Isola DE156)
-Polyimide, BT epoxy, and Panasonic’s I-Tera MT
-Flame retardancy achieved through phosphorus (P) and phosphorus-nitrogen (P-N) systems, forming carbonized barriers or releasing non-combustible gases to suppress fires.
End-to-End Services
PCB Fabrication: Precision lamination, drilling (using carbide bits for high-strength materials), and lead-free surface finishes (HASL, ENIG, immersion tin).
PCBA Assembly: 7 Panasonic high-speed SMT lines, 2 DIP lines, and automated soldering at 260°C lead-free reflow temperatures for halogen-free compliance.
Testing & Compliance: Third-party halogen content verification via combustion ion chromatography and X-ray fluorescence, plus IPC-A-610 Class 3 quality control.
Factory Capabilities
-10000+ m² facility with 220+ skilled workers
-Certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 13485
-Trusted by global clients like Littelfuse, Hisense, and Surfilter for reliable, traceable halogen-free solutions.
Applications
Our halogen-free PCBs are ideal for:
-Automotive: Engine control units, ADAS systems, and infotainment modules.
-Medical: Implantable devices, diagnostic equipment, and life-saving electronics.
-Renewables: Solar inverters, wind turbine controllers, and energy storage systems.
-Consumer Electronics: Laptops, wearables, and eco-conscious gadgets.
Cost & Lead Time
While halogen-free PCBs typically incur a 20–30% cost premium over traditional FR-4, our large-scale production and direct partnerships with material suppliers (e.g., Isola, Panasonic) help optimize costs. Lead times vary by complexity, with standard 2–4 layer boards available in 5–7 days for urgent projects.
